Overview
The Paleontology and Stratigraphy Museum holds an impressive collection of fossils and rocks from both Romania and abroad. Of great historical and scientific value, the educational and scientific collections serve as valuable research and educational tools, playing a crucial role in understanding the Earth’s sciences. Thus, through its specific nature, the Museum of Paleontology and Stratigraphy conducts activities in the field of natural sciences, targeting both natural science students and the general public of all ages.
Activities
Support teaching activities for pupils and students
With its rich collection of fossils, the Paleontology and Stratigraphy Museum has traditionally served as a teaching and scientific reference center in the field of natural sciences, playing a paramount part in the professional training and specialization of natural science students, teaching staff, and researchers. The presentation of the permanent collection, temporary exhibitions, and educational programs organized at the museum also serves as a valuable information source for schoolchildren.
Cultural and educational activities
The Paleontology and Stratigraphy Museum regularly organizes temporary exhibitions, events (including the European Night of Museums and European Researchers’ Night), and cultural and educational activities on various topics to promote scientific heritage and popularize geological sciences to the general public.
Collections and permanent exhibitions
The Paleontology and Stratigraphy Museum houses over 50,000 specimens, comprising fossils and rocks organized into several distinct collections based on their area of origin, geological age, and specific taxonomic criteria. The permanent exhibition consists of the Taxonomic Paleontology Collection, the Transylvanian Basin Collection, the Type Collection, and the Outdoor Collection.
