Overview
Opened in 2001, the BBU Vivarium offers visitors a permanent collection of approximately 60 species and hundreds of live animals. They belong to various taxonomic groups: reptiles, amphibians, fish, birds, and invertebrates, both native and exotic. Although they come from all continents except Antarctica, the animals are presented in terrariums designed to resemble their natural environment as closely as possible. They are fed according to their specific needs.
The Vivarium’s primary function is educational, and its permanent collection is tailored to meet the academic needs of students, thereby representing the practical aspect of the teaching process.
By organizing and participating in various community events, setting up temporary exhibitions and workshops on interesting topics, and offering interactive visits, the BBU Vivarium also has a strong public education component, particularly for young people, aimed at promoting knowledge and the protection of nature. The Vivarium also offers volunteer-based specialist (veterinary) assistance for sick and injured reptiles and birds.
Permanent exhibition
The Vivarium’s permanent collection includes 50 species of birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and arthropods.
Activities
The museum staff organizes guided tours in three languages (Romanian, Hungarian, and English) by appointment, during periods with low visitor numbers. If the situation allows it, visitors can also interact directly with the harmless specimens from the permanent collection. Museum collections
