Zoological Museum / Joseph von Franzenau Lepidoptera Collection

This is the oldest collection of lepidoptera in Romania; its first catalogue was published in 1850. The Collection contains 951 species and a total number of 1604 samples kept in 17 entomological boxes. It has been very well kept over the more than 150 years of its existence. The Collection has an outstanding documentary and scientific value, reflecting the fauna of lepidoptera in the Săcărâmb region 150 years ago. Based on the material of the Collection, there have been described also new species that were invalidated at a later point.
