Museum of Mineralogy / Zeolites from the West Carpathians

Zeolites are a group of hydrated minerals whose name means "boiling stone" (from the Greek words "zeo" = to boil, and "lithos" = stone) due to the fact that zeolites eliminate water if they are heated.

Zeolites from the West Carpathians is a collection put together by an author, Prof. Dr. Ioan Bedelean, as a result of his doctoral thesis. The collection contains 7 different types of zeolites of magmatic origin, localized in granodiorites, andesites, etc. from different occurrences in the West Carpathians.

The Collection is displayed at the entrance into the corridor of the Geology (Mineralogy) Department, and it can be visited free of charge.
