About Béla Kis

Professor Béla Kis was born in 1924 in Aiud. The diversity of flora and fauna around his native town stimulated the interest of the young Béla Kis for nature and especially for insects. He attended Bethlen Gábor High School in his hometown. In 1946, Béla Kis began his studies at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Bolyai University in Cluj (today’s Babeș-Bolyai University). In 1950, after graduating from the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Béla Kis became an assistant at the Zoology Department of the university. He started his scientific work in 1951. He published an impressive number of scientific papers: 48 papers on orthopterans, 23 papers on neuropterans, 17 papers on plecopterans, and 19 papers on heteropterans. He described 28 species new to science (8 species of orthopterans, 5 species of neuropterans, and 15 species of plecopterans), as well as many new species to the Romanian fauna.
