The Zoological Museum’s osteological collection comprises 898 specimens, primarily consisting of skulls, followed by sternums, trophies, skeletons, pelvises, mandibles, vertebral columns, coracoid bones, teeth, legs, bones involved in the auditory process, and a rostrum.

The collection includes bones from 220 different species belonging to six classes: mammals (Mammalia: 498), birds (Aves: 353), reptiles (Reptilia: 15), amphibians (Amphibia: 7), Actinopterygii (Actinopterygii: 4), cartilaginous fish (Chondrichthyes: 3). The mammalian class is represented by 12 orders, most of which are rodents (Rodentia: 201) – with 67 species, and the bird class consists of 135 species from 22 orders. In the case of amphibians and reptiles, a total of 14 species belong to three orders each; as for the fish, there are four species from two orders.

Most of the bones come from Romania, mostly from Cluj County, but there are also specimens from abroad. A significant part of the collection is due to Ottó Herman, János Klír, and Teodor Popescu.
